FLUGHAFENTEMPELHOF.COM: Be-4-Tempelhof is almost there
The ideas for a possible re-use of the former airport Berlin-Tempelhof shoot further into the cabbage. While Berlin's Governing Mayor Klaus Wowereit (SPD) parliamentary now justify the recent decision for the permanent short-term guests "Bread & Butter" needs, the citizens initiative of the airport has not yet given up long ago.
fight with renewed vigor, the Berlin citizens' initiative "Be-4-Tempelhof" continue tirelessly for the preservation of Tempelhof as a World Heritage Site. In the interview, the initiator of the civil campaign Volker Perplies insight into the current status of the petition.
FLUGHAFENTEMPELHOF.COM: When did Be-4-THF with the collection of signatures for the first time begun?
Volker Perplies: Our activities goes back to an initial petition for a World Heritage Tempelhof Airport, which we started in February 2008. We have collected around the world online and on paper than 22,000 signatures. The new
plebiscites we launched in late 2008. The citizens' petition in the district of Tempelhof-Schöneberg on 3 October (Day of German Unity) and the referendum on 30 October (date of closure of Tempelhof).
FTC: What is the exact intention of this action?
Volker Perplies: The ICAT referendum for a commercial airport Tempelhof - albeit under very dubious circumstances - failed. That we have to accept. But we can absolutely not accept that loss with Tempelhof, an historical monument of the first order for future generations should. Tempelhof was the first airport in the world, it is a monument of international standing, a symbol of the freedom of Germany and Europe. It is a matter of historical and global responsibility to preserve this monument as it has marked 85 years history. Tempelhof is in the truest sense of the word world cultural heritage - and not the mercy of Berlin provincial politicians. Our citizens and our decision referendum aimed at Tempelhof obtain authentic in its functional context. Not as a commercial airport, but after all, as a center of aviation history with flight operations. For this, we make specific proposals. Especially for the referendum we go a step further and do in the future to avoid those mistakes that led to the problematic situation at Tempelhof. Therefore, there are also several rules to boost transparency and political culture.
FTC: How many members meet for a regular basis? On what layers they come from?
Perplies Volker: We are currently about 60 active combatants. The remarkable thing is that they come from all social classes. This ranges from 14 pupils aged up to 80 years retired. Very few of them have a background in the aerospace industry. There are simply want people who feel betrayed by the Senate and add your own responsibility to society. We are a real citizens' movement.
FTC: You have referred in a recent radio commercial for your actions and gather in the city across all districts - which was the highlight experience?
Volker Perplies: The most symbolic - although highly doubtful - the highlight was surely Klaus Wowereit's closing party at Tempelhof. Planned as a celebration party, People's Voice has spoken clearly: Of the 800 invited guests arrived not even 400, almost all have special guests from helpers attorney. It rained boos and stink bombs. Instead of proudly fly out with the Candy Bomber, had to leave Klaus Wowereit, the event like a drowned rat early on the footpath. This was so embarrassing. We have collected the same way on this day the first 1,000 signatures for our petition.
FTC: Its members have direct contact with citizens - such as responding to the issue of the Berlin Tempelhof?
Volker Perplies: Many people are just incredibly upset about Klaus Wowereit and his senate. "We have been lied to and cheated," there's a very innocuous formulation. Others are surprised because they have heard from the media, but that it all would be decided. When we told then, that the dispute at Tempelhof still continues, then they sign you.
course there are the classic "party bosses" that outraged about the fact that we still do not give up, "although it does not have the popular vote almost 80% voted for Tempelhof. In these people, it still sometimes, feeling that they still live in a real socialist thought.
FTC: Be-4-Tempelhof collected for a petition for a people and desire, as is the current status?
Volker Perplies: For the citizens' initiative, we are "in the final sprint." We already have the necessary 7500 votes collected. However, there is also a rate of invalid signatures, so we need to gain some time on. For the new petitions we are now over 13,000 signatures. 20 000 we need in the first round. We are very, very optimistic.
FTC: Thank you Mr. Perplies for the interview!
